An open science seminar exploring the possible connection between solar activity and earthquakes will take place in Almaty.

The event will be hosted at the National Scientific Center for Seismological Observations and Research and will bring together leading academics and industry experts.

The speaker is Alikhan Gataulin — a young researcher, head of the Solar Science direction at Space Lab, and a finalist of the NASA Space Apps Challenge.

Key topics include:

• the relationship between solar flares and tectonic activity;
• the influence of space weather on Earth’s crust;
• modern technologies for seismic forecasting.

As part of the event, the Center’s specialists held a series of working meetings with representatives of the oil & gas and industrial sectors. Discussions focused on modern approaches to induced seismicity monitoring, geophysical research, and industrial safety.

Particular attention was given to technologies aimed at improving infrastructure reliability and resilience, as well as digital solutions for automated monitoring and data analysis.

Participation in the exhibition enabled the Center to:

• enhance its professional competencies and expertise;
• identify перспективные направления for development and implementation of innovative technologies;
• strengthen cooperation with oil & gas and industrial enterprises.

The outcomes will contribute to the further development of seismic monitoring systems and improvement of industrial safety standards.

A working meeting was held between representatives of the National Scientific Center for Seismological Observations and Research of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan and the Kazakhstan National Data Center as part of efforts to strengthen interagency cooperation.

The meeting took place at the Kazakhstan National Data Center and was attended by Deputy Director of NNC SNI Erik Alipuly, Head of the Induced Seismicity Laboratory Bekbolat Tashev, Director of KNDC Natalia Mikhailova, and Deputy Director Aydyn Mukhambayev.

During the meeting, the parties discussed key areas of cooperation, including data exchange, sharing of scientific expertise, and the development of joint initiatives in seismological research.

As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached to resume, formalize, and further develop joint work in the field of seismology. The parties expressed their interest in strengthening partnership relations and implementing joint projects in the near future.

The National Center for Seismological Observations and Research is participating in the 16th General Assembly of the Asian Seismological Commission (ASC2026), held in Tashkent from April 25 to 30, 2026.

As part of the Assembly, the Center’s specialists are delivering presentations and holding working meetings with international colleagues, with particular focus on the development of seismological research and the reduction of seismic risks.

On April 28–29, 2026, the Republican Scientific Conference “Assessment of Seismic Hazard and Seismic Risk of Azerbaijan” was held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Perizat Utepbergenovna Kilanbekova, Junior Researcher of the National Center for Seismological Observations and Research, participated in the conference with a presentation titled “Geoelectric Precursors of Earthquakes in the Northern Tien Shan.”

The presentation focused on modern approaches to studying precursors of seismic events and the development of monitoring systems.

Participation in such scientific events promotes the exchange of experience, strengthens international cooperation, and contributes to the development of seismological science.
