Sector for the Management of Scientific‑Technical and International Projects
The primary purpose and main activity of the sector is to coordinate the work and structural units on matters of international and regional cooperation, as well as to provide documented support for scientific laboratories participating in international and regional projects.
Tasks:
  • Monitoring and supporting research projects.
  • Ensuring the Institute’s participation in research projects, including competitive programs.
  • Increasing the international visibility and significance of the Institute’s scientific achievements.
  • Receiving foreign guests and delegations related to the Institute’s scientific activities.
  • Coordinating laboratory activities in the field of international cooperation.
  • Initiating activities aimed at enhancing international scientific engagement and improving the Institute’s international ranking.
  • Organizing international scientific events and tours of leading laboratories.
  • Concluding cooperation agreements/memorandums with partners in scientific research.
  • Preparing and drafting contracts with international partners of LLP “Institute of Seismology.”
  • Assisting in the preparation of required documentation for international competitions, programs, grants, and commercial contracts.
  • Supporting national and international scientific‑technical projects funded by various international and Kazakhstani sources, including PCF programs.
  • Updating and maintaining the corporate website.

Activity Results:
  • Established strong and constructive relations with the leadership of the Beijing National Earth Observatory, the Institute of Geophysics of the PRC, and the China Earthquake Agency. Agreements were reached for IS and “SOME” LLP staff to participate in training courses by invitation of the ASC General Assembly.
  • Joint work was carried out between IS, the Institute of Geophysics of the PRC, the Beijing National Earth Observatory, and the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Federation regarding participation in training courses.
  • With support from the World Bank, a unique online seminar “Towards a Unified Regional Risk Exposure Database for Central Asia” was organized on 11–14 May 2021 together with the Italian RED Institute.
  • In cooperation with the Earthquake Administration of Xinjiang (PRC), the 10th China–Kazakhstan International Symposium on Earthquakes in the Tien Shan region was held on 15–16 September 2021 at the Institute of Seismology, with participation from the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan. The event was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s Independence.
  • Leading staff of the Institute and the sector participated in the International Command‑Staff Seismological Exercise “Zher – 2021” held on 18–22 September 2021.
  • In December 2021, to implement joint measures for integrating earthquake early warning systems, LLP “Institute of Seismology,” the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, the Central Asian Institute for Applied Earth Studies, and LLP “I2NIK” signed a four‑party memorandum.
  • In April–May 2022, sector staff participated in updating the corporate website of the Institute of Seismology and filling its sections (About Us, News, Activities, etc.) with relevant information and user‑accessible materials.
